Don't Bite Me! Patch Review & Giveaway - CLOSED -

I live in Indonesia, which is a tropical country where we have only two types of weather: summer and rain. Living in a tropical country means: Lots of Mosquitoes ! Yes, we have many mosquitoes here, especially at my house where we have "an open-air design" -- we have an open-air / no-roof style in our living room -- so you can imagine the many mosquitoes that would annoy us the whole night while watching TV. Usually they come out at night, 6 pm onwards. So what me and my family used to do is spray some bug repellent lotions and / or put on some mosquito-repellent device which use electricity or we burn a traditional mosquito-repellent incense (actually it's not like an incense stick but I don't know what i should call it in english).

Anyway, it's been bothersome to me and my family. We hate to burn the incense because it would creates smokes, we also hate to plug the device because they usually don't last long and it would certainly add to our electricity bill, and I don't like to use the repellent lotion everyday, it's sticky and it's not good for my skin health. So when I stumbled upon "Don't Bite Me! Patch" on a website I thought "this is what me and my family needs" (and maybe what people in tropical countries might need too ;p). Of course at first the name strikes me as "odd" too, but I was curious and here's what I learned from the website:

The "Don't Bite Me! Patch" operates in Houston, TX, where insects are a huge problem. The owners of the company are not chemists, just parents who wanted to make a difference.
The Don't Bite Me! Patch uses a patent pending technology and formula to deliver natural ingredients into the body via a topical patch application. Only two ingredients are in the patch, Vitamin B1 and Aloe. The body's natural response to excess Vitamin B1 is to excrete it through the pores, covering up the carbon dioxide that we emit naturally. (Carbon dioxide is what attracts insects.) This process makes an invisible barrier around the body, making the user unattractive to insects. The Aloe serves as an anti-inflammatory agent, minimizing the reaction in the event you do experience a bite.

I am so lucky to have the opportunity to try this "Don't Bite Me! Patch". When it finally arrived I eagerly ask my family to wear it that night. They provided the instructions on how to wear the patch at the website and it's really easy, kinda like putting on band-aids. We all wore our patches except for my mom who was not at home when I handed the patches. Because the mosquitoes usually came around 6 pm so we put our patches at 4 pm. IT WORKS! the mosquitoes weren't even near us, it seems that they suddenly lose interest in us. They were just flying around in our house but AWAY from us. This patch is Magic!
My mom came home at around 8 pm and she was the only one in the living room who were busy trying to make the mosquitoes away from her while we were all relaxing, sitting and watching TV without having to shoo away any mosquitoes ;p

I love this product! The patch is thin and clear so I almost forgot that it's there. It's also safe for children, waterproof and lasts for up to 36 hrs! And it's a natural product too!
Hubby got a little tiny rash though, it happened when he take off his patch but I think it's because of the adhesive or maybe just a little minor side effect, the rest of my family doesn't experience it at all. It also stated in the website that Dermatitis or more serious hypersensitivity reactions occur rarely.
Anyway, I was up to the challenge of putting it on for 36 hrs to test it, I didn't remove it while showering because it's waterproof (you could even wear it while swimming), and it does work it's magic in that 36 hrs, I only got 2 mosquitoes on my thigh but I don't think they even bite me. So, all in all, this product really exceed my family's expectation (my mom even begged me to give her a patch the next day!) :D

Do Good While You Shop:
And what I love most of this company is that they are determined to get their product into the hands of people in countries where diseases and deaths are so common in their way of life. They are currently working together with several organizations and they also would like to see their product get to Africa, where one child dies every 30 seconds from Malaria, and if you want to help their mission please check out their "our mission" page in the website to help make a difference.

Of course this excellent patch is not only good for mosquitoes but also for other biting bugs that you found in the garden, at the camp park or at your backyard and it's totally safe for kids and children! So it should be on the must-have item list for your kids camping trip or when you take them out to play in the park. And just like what they said in their website; whether you're swimming, camping, golfing, gardening, hunting, fishing or watching an outdoor event, you can now enjoy your time outdoors, not dread it!

WIN WIN WIN !
The people at Don't Bite Me! Patch are really generous, they have kindly offer A Box of Don't Bite Me! Patch (10 patches) as our giveaway prize! And SURPRISE: there'll be THREE WINNERS !! Yep, you heard me. Three Winners! ^o^

Purple Pig Shirts Review

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Remember the NachoMamaTees Giveaway last week? (psst, the giveaway is still open until Nov 1st), my husband reviewed it and love what he reviewed, he actually wears it 2 times a week now! ;p
I also happened to receive a T-shirt from their sister site called Crazy Dog Tshirts which I reviewed and posted in my fashion blog TwoThousandThings (and a Giveaway too!). We both loved the tshirts so much so when Bill (the guy behind all those fab tshirts!) contacted me again to review another sister site called Purple Pig Shirts which sells Yoga shirts, I of course jump to accept it ^o^

From the store:
Purple pig was created based on our desire to share our commitment to health and wellness in a fun way. These shirts are not only for practicing Yoga, Pilates and Meditation but any wellness activity.

We received this "Namaste" tshirt for my hubby to review. I've been trying to get him into yoga these past few years so I kinda secretly hoping that he will do some yoga with me eventually, especially since now he have a Yoga shirt ^o^

The first time he received it he immediately tried it on straight from the package wrapper! talk about in love with a shirt, huh? ^o^ Then the minute he put it on, his smile was all over the place. He loves the color, he loves the soft fabric and he loves the length of the shirt. Extra length in a shirt would be perfect for yoga because you know how those yoga moves, we stretch up and down trying to do a complicated position which sometimes makes you uncomfortable when you're practicing yoga with friends or in a gym, because your shirt will ride up and you'll show a little bit part of your body that you really wish anyone wouldn't see. So this Purple Pig Shirts are really made for yoga and pilates, the softness of the fabric makes us move more easily and the length of the shirt would calm our mind because we know that it provides extra coverage. ;p

Our only suggestion is we wish the "namaste" graphic were a bit bigger like their "ohm" tshirt, but that's just a personal suggestion since i do have a fashion blog so I automatically see things in a "stylish" point of view ;p Not important, I know ^o^

Overall, we love it! They're probably one of the softest tees around. I also love the quality of the graphics, it's not your average graphic tee which will fade or cracked after being washed and ironed. The unique designs of the shirts are each hand drawn and they have new designs coming up every week, so make sure to check often. They will also soon start offering long sleeve burnout t shirts, sweatshirts and kids shirts. For $29.99 this is the yoga shirt you want!

Relish! Giveaway - CLOSED -

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

I will be honest with you: I don't cook much. I used to love trying new recipes (mostly because i'm really a beginner at cooking ;p) but then I kinda lost my interest because it feels like it's taking my time. What I mean is, because I was a beginner at cooking so I look at the recipe books a lot, and I used to be moody and/or impulsive when it comes to cooking so sometimes I feel too lazy to open a recipe book but at other times I suddenly have the urge to grab my recipe books and cook something for my husband. And that's when I found out that my kitchen is lacking some of the ingredients in the recipe so I have to go to the nearest grocery store to buy them. And then 2 days after I would find myself flipping the pages of my recipe books again but (as always) the ingredients are lacking so I have to go run to the grocery store again to get that. Even if I planned the menu a week's ahead there's always a lack of something. This is the reason of why I'm losing my interest in cooking, especially the part where I have to run to the store twice or even three times a week just to cook some meals.

But those days are now long gone. A couple of weeks ago I got contacted by Ann from Relish! and she introduce me to this smart weekly menu planner aimed to help busy families put wonderful meals on the table every night. Relish! was founded by two moms, Ann Bender herself and Karen Hutcherson who love to cook but didn't have time to sift through cookbooks and magazines for evening meals and what's worse, found themselves at the grocery store several times per week. Yes, a lot like my story, huh?! So I decided to try it out. And boy do I wish I was introduced to Relish earlier! It has made my days easier and what's important is: I now has the mood for cooking again!

This is because Relish! offers the seemingly impossible: affordable, simple mealtime solutions to restore balance in over-scheduled lives. You simply choose your weekly recipes (up to 5 recipes) from Relish! website and then the grocery list for those 5 recipes are automatically tabulated, and then you can shop once a week and have all of the ingredients needed for all the meals. I think that's brilliant! Here's more details from the website:
  • Each week you choose five entrees to make for the week.

  • All dinners are kitchen-tested (no more disasters) and take 30 minutes or less prep.

  • The comprehensive grocery list makes grocery shopping a snap.

  • 5 dinners and sides cost less than $85 per week at the grocery store. You will notice substantial savings by sticking to a list!

Aren't you glad that now you know about Relish! I never have to go buy groceries 2-3 times a week again, I now simply use relish and all I have to do is just pick the recipes, print the grocery list that has been tabulated by the website and off I go to the grocery store to buy what's in the list, and then I came home happily and ready to cook for 5 dinners without having to worry about ingredients lacking again.

Pick the recipes:

Print the grocery list:

Came home with a week's worth of dinner:

Relish! is also great for moms with children because they have kid-friendly recipes as well as healthy lunches ideas for kids. There are recipes from appetizers to dinners, and they even have recipes for dinner parties and gourmet potluck!

WIN WIN WIN !
Ann Bender from Relish! has generously offer one of you a Free 1-Year Subscription of Relish! Believe me, you would want this, it would save you time and money.

Envirosax Giveaway ! - CLOSED -

Friday, October 23, 2009

You know how I have a new hobby of reviewing new products and hosting a giveaway here at Tigerlily's Book, well not only I love hosting a giveaway but I also love entering giveaways at other websites! But maybe I'm not the luckiest person or maybe I'm always out of "luck charms" because after all of those giveaways I participated on I always seem to have a very little chance of winning. My first (and ONLY) winning so far is from Miss Malaprop's blog and I won an Envirosax bag of my choice! And that is such a wonderful news!

But what's an Envirosax bag, you asked? Well, it is a reusable, chic, inexpensive, compact and eco-friendly shopping bag. So I was very pleased when I knew I won this bag because I am now in the process of trying to change my family's bad habits of using plastic and trying to be friendly with the earth. As you may already know (and you should!), using plastics can be a huge threat to the environment so you better start changing plastic bags to reusable bags like these. (you can find more detailed information about Envirosax later, because there'll be another review & giveaway post on Envirosax in my fashion blog, TwoThousandThings).

Anyway, I chose one of the Oxford Series with purple argyle pattern on it. I have always love argyle pattern but never really have one item with that pattern, so after browsing the many designs and patterns of Envirosax bags in the website I chose this purple/grey argyle one so I could finally have my first argyle pattern thing ;p

And look, Queen Latifah also has Envirosax from one of the Oxfrod series! Yes, celebrities are also using Envirosax, that kinda makes me feel a little bit special -lol
Anyway, I've used this bag to the grocery store yesterday and it surprise me that this lightweight bag could actually hold lots of stuffs! It could hold up to 44lbs (around 20kg) ! I was buying a pack of soda cans and quite a handful of other stuffs such as fruits and snack boxes, and it hold it all!

I also love the fact that Envirosax bag can be rolled up to become much smaller if not in use. I could just throw it in my hand bag (even in my clutch bag!) and then if I need to stop by the store to buy something I could just hand out the bag to the cashier so I am no longer have another reason to use plastic bags from the stores.

Look, it's the same size as my mobile phone!

I do have one suggestion, though. And it's regarding the "beauty" side of the bag so it's not really important ^o^ As you can see above, when rolled-up this bag has a little clasp but when the bag is opened to it's normal shape the clasp is kinda bugging me a little bit because it's just hanging out at the bottom of the bag (well, as I told you this suggestion may not be important but I do have a Fashion blog so I automatically pay attention to these kind of things ^o^). But that's just a suggestion and I don't have any negative things to say about this bag. I love the durability, the wide storage and the stylish patterns too and I know my mom is secretly want to steal this from me ;p

WIN WIN WIN !
And luckily for you, my dear Tigerlily's Book readers, Katy from Envirosax has generously offer one of you a Free Envirosax bag of your choice! Yep, you heard me! One of you will snag the eco-friendly durable bag of your choice, they got plenty designs to choose, from flower print to camo/camouflage pattern.

Party Planner : Halloween Party

Sunday, October 18, 2009

Halloween is coming! And as an "imaginary party planner" I already have several things in mind to decorate the house for this year's halloween party!
Oh if you still remember, I have had my first "imaginary party planner" here on Tigerlily's Book, you might also wanna check that out. Who knows, it might give you some ideas and inspirations for your own party ^o^

Well, anyway, let's start with the Halloween Party. I'm not planning for a super spooky-themed party here but more like a mix between spooky and cute, so that the kids would not feel so scared getting in the house for trick or treating. The party is for family and close friends to mingle with so I think it's better to skip the bloody-scary part ^o^

And here we go...
(by clicking the pictures below will take you to the picture source link)

FIRST, THE INVITATION:

The invitation cards should represent what kind of party we are having, so because our party theme is less-scary I chose this card instead ^o^ From Birdie's Custom Cards

THE FRONT YARD:
Let's start with the front yard! Aside from the must-haves carved pumpkins in different sizes and carvings, an additional skeleton hand shaped lawn stakes would add the drama to the party ^o^

shindigz.com

THE TERRACE:
I'll add additional carved and lighted pumpkins too in the terrace, I'd pick the medium to small ones and add some fake-flame here and there near the window or the terrace's chair.

shindigz.com

And let's add this cute trick-or-Treat door sign at the door so that the kids would not get too-scared and so that they know that Trick-or-Treating is welcome in our house^o^

Flea Market Studio via Flickr

THE FOYER:
To welcome guests, I'm gonna put these cute and not-so-scary decorations below near the front door, such as this halloween tree, it's simple but potential to make guests smile.

Sky Blue Crayons via Flickr

And these jack-o-lanterns would store the treats for the neighbor kids who would come for "trick-or-treats". Just put these 2 on a table near the front door and fill them with the treats for quick-grabbing.

From Grandmas Favorite1 via Etsy

And these are the treats that we would be giving the kids:
Candies in various Halloween shapes such as ghost and pumpkins, wrapped in a clear plastic with colorful ties.

THE DECORATIONS:
These less-scary decorations would surely liven up the party and would make conversation among guests.

both from Flea Market Studio

For the lighting in the main rooms:

Purple SpiderWeb light set from Shindigz

The sofa needs some decor too:

Flea Market Studio

And these are some decorations for the TABLES.
A cute monster lamp shade for the side table near the walls:

For storing mints and candies at the living room table:

vampire jaw cup from Mother Macabre

Halloween house decoration for the table near the window:

Flea Market Studio

And a basket full of halloween eggs decoration as a center-piece in the coffee table:

From Bcompetent

THE GUEST BATHROOM:
When I decor, I like Details. So the guest bathroom would also get the halloween theme make-over so the whole first floor would turn into another dimension and guests would feel like they're in a new different place ^^

First, let's decorate the bathroom door.

And then let's put something in the corner of the bathroom:

And the mysterious glow-in-the-dark hand soap:

From DugShop

THE DINING ROOM:
For the dining room mantel.

Above the dining table, food will be served with this tableware:

from Shindigz

AND THE FOOD...
For appetizer:

the true "finger" food from Olaf N

For the main dish:

Monster Spaghetti, from Creative Kismet

And for the snacks, spread around the living room tables..

Finger cookies by Debs Cookies

Tombstone cookie from Whipped Bakeshop

The drinks:

spooky-label bottles from Shindigz

And of course, the main center-piece cake:

Spider Cake from Dragonfly Custom Cakes,
even the big spider on top is edible!

Last but not least, when the party is nearly over and the guests are getting ready to go home, don't forget to distribute the party favors! Party favors are my favorite part in a party! ^__^
Here I have 2 kind of favor bags, one for Men and other for Women guests (just because there are so many cute favor bags to choose from and I can't decide on just one ;p)
Here's for the Guys..

Paper-Goodie Bag in skull motif and dark colored pattern
From Elles via Etsy

And here's for the Ladies..

a "pretty" skull-shaped bags enriched with sparkly embellishments,
From Tesoros De Mexico via Etsy

Both favor bags are filled with the same goodies which consists of:
an intriguing glycerin soap with spooky characters inside, stored in black organza bag.

From Fig Leaf Soap

and an assorted halloween-themed button/badge:

From My Button Boutique

And both favor bags are also embellished with this gift tags, written on the back is a personalized "thanks for coming" message.

From Bunco Bettys via Etsy

Pfiuh, there you go...!
My "imaginary" Halloween Party, what do you think? Does that makes you want to come to my party? You're all invited! ^_____^

Oh, I almost forgot, as the hostess I must dress in costume (as almost all of halloween party is a costume party) so I'm gonna dress up either as The Queen's Guard:

Or as a Warrior Princess:

Which one do you think I should be ??

Check out many options of great costumes at Flaunt on Fashion (review & giveaway coming soon at my fashion blog TwoThousandThings).
One last thing, I had to have a BLACK CAT as the ultimate halloween accessory:

Meet my cat, Blacky
